December 12, 2000 - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - The IT Group announces alliance with Environmental Network International to develop customized web-based procurement system
As part of its continued leadership in the emerging environmental business-to-business market, The IT Group, Inc. (NYSE: ITX) (the Company) announced today that it has formed an alliance with Environmental Network International (ENI-Net) to be utilized by the Company’s procurement organization using a web-based, electronic-procurement system for sourcing, pre-qualifying and awarding purchase orders and subcontracts to suppliers of products, services and equipment. The alliance agreement is for three years.

The web-based system should provide The IT Group seamless access to ENI-Net’s services, which should reduce the time and effort required for the procurement process and give buyers access to a vast network of suppliers. The IT Group believes it can achieve a greater competitive advantage as a result of lower overall procurement costs.

The electronic-procurement system is designed to be fully integrated with The IT Group’s financial reporting system and will provide a single point of access with many of The IT Group’s business suppliers. The rollout of the ENI platform at The IT Group is scheduled for January 1, 2001 and is expected to be utilized to produce, at a reduced cost, approximately $400 million of The IT Group’s subcontract and supplier awards per year when fully implemented, which should be in three years.

"We believe that our alliance with ENI will underscore our deep-rooted commitment to growth and increased efficiencies, while expanding our ability to solicit competitive proposals. This alliance should greatly reduce our acquisition costs, our suppliers’ marketing costs and other costs associated with seeking and responding to solicitations," said Scott Bonta, senior vice president of The IT Group for Consulting and Technology and Chief Information Officer.

"With the integration of ENI’s procurement platform into their ERP system, The IT Group will have key technology in place to expand and manage their valued suppliers and procurements both today and in the future,” said Jay Fredkin, president and chief executive officer of ENI-Net, Inc. “The IT Group application and their strategy clearly illustrates the power and potential of ENI’s procurement system."

May 15, 2000 – ENI-Net Has Successful Debuts at Environmental Trade Shows
Taking to the road to showcase our Suppliers and our new slogan “Connecting Buyers and Suppliers in the Environmental and Construction Community”, ENI-Net found tremendous success recently at its trade show debuts in Long Beach, California and Boston, Massachusetts.

ENI-Net made its successful debut at the Long Beach trade show on May 4, 2000, sponsored by Earth Tech (an ENI-Net user). There was a buzz in the crowd of 300 stemming from the technological prowess of ENI-Net’s electronic business-to-business procurement platform. ENI-Net seized the opportunity to provide live demonstrations to prime contractors and suppliers alike on the many benefits of ENI-Net’s web-based portal. In addition to our existing Prime users (Earth Tech, CH2MHILL, Jacobs Engineering, Tetra Tech), several new Primes expressed an interest in ENI-Net. We expect to announce additional Prime users and alliance partners in the near future as a result.

Additionally, our Prime and Supplier Sales Teams canvassed the attendees at the EnviroExpo 2000 held at the World Trade Center in Boston May 9-11, 2000. With crowds estimated over 5000, ENI-Net established itself as the leader in the environmental and related construction community with live demonstrations of its highly touted automated sourcing and solicitation tool. Due to the enthusiastic response ENI-Net had to double our staff to 10 persons to work the three day event answering questions from buyers and suppliers. We also received opportune support from our alliance partners FindMRO to explain to our ENI-Net members the benefits this new alliance partnership brings to their companies.

The response to ENI-Net’s value-added subscription structure (no commissions) was well received by hundreds of new members that took the opportunity to sign up during the two weeks of these shows. Feedback from buyers and suppliers included:

  • Prime buyers are directing suppliers to the ENI-Net site so they can source their services and products – fill-out one pre-qualification package.
  • Suppliers are aware of the increased visibility they are getting through ENI-Net
  • Members love ENI-Net’s value-added functionality including press releases, datasheet updating, web development, and the Resource Center.

With these two successful debut events logged in as many weeks, ENI-Net will continue to promote our Supplier’s capabilities to bring them more exposure through upcoming events like the Waste Expo 2000 to be held May 16-18, 2000 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, and the Air & Waste Management Association Exhibition to be held June 19-21, 2000 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. At these events the ENI-Net Team will continue to increase our Supplier’s visibility to industry Primes and the environmental buying community as a whole through live product demonstrations that highlight the intuitiveness, flexibility and efficiency of the ENI-Net system.
